Volunteers are essential to our continued success and to the community is really involved. From hands-on help to behind-the-scenes support, every role plays a vital part in nurturing a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable community. All the Directors are volunteers and we have several active working groups with core volunteers.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to share your skills and passion as well as to get out and make new friends and ensure the places you love are here for generations to come.

No Experience? No Problem!
All are welcome—no matter your background or experience level. We offer guidance, support, and the chance to learn new skills along the way. Volunteering is open to individuals, families, students, and even work groups.
Here are just a few ways you can get involved:

Help care for the land, maintain access to the valley along foot paths and help out on weekly workdays or occasional Sundays. We have experienced leaders who can help guide you and discuss what you are interested in doing.
What's involved?
Helping the team with practical work to keep the countryside in great condition
Maintaining good relationships with people who share the land
Helping monitor wildlife nature and habitats and report any issue
The group will carry out tasks such as:
Clearing back around and levelling paths
Repair and maintain fencing and boundaries
Clear invasive weeds

Enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. Help improve access so more of the community enjoy the Heavens. Help protect the Heavens so that wildlife can thrive, now and forever. Join a friendly and varied team and make some new connections. Volunteer alongside passionate countryside management professionals, learning skills along the way. Share your passion for the outdoors with others and help them understand the importance of looking after it.

Do you have DIY, carpentry, or general maintenance skills? Join us in maintaining our buildings and managing other practical tasks around the land, such as fencing and gate repairs.
What’s Involved
We’re looking for volunteers with practical skills to help with various tasks like:General building maintenance (painting, repairs, upkeep)
Carpentry work and woodwork for repairing or building structures
Fencing and gate repairs to maintain safety and accessibility
Experience in using tools
You’ll have the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a team, depending on the task. We’re flexible on time, but 2-3 hours a month would make a big difference.
This role will suit you if

You enjoy hands-on, outdoor work and don’t mind a bit of physical labour
You have a good eye for detail and like solving practical problems
By Getting Involved You Could
Enjoy spending time outdoors in a peaceful and beautiful setting, while helping to improve access for others in the community. Your work will directly support the protection of local wildlife habitats and landscapes. You’ll join a friendly and diverse team, learn new countryside management skills, and share your love for the land with others who care about it too. -
Do you regularly walk the Heavens Valley and notice what’s happening on the land? We’re looking for a group of local volunteers to act as “Walking Guardians” who can help us stay on top of any issues that might need attention.
What’s Involved
As a Walking Guardian, you’ll be asked to:Walk designated paths or areas within the valley on a regular basis
Monitor the condition of the land, buildings, and any infrastructure (fences, gates, etc.)
Report back any issues or areas that need fixing (e.g., damaged fencing, fallen trees, unsafe paths)
Keep an eye on any wildlife, flora, or other natural changes that may require attention
This role requires a flexible 1 hour a week, depending on your route and frequency of walks.

You enjoy being outdoors and have a keen eye for detail
You’re comfortable communicating any issues you find to the team
You want to help maintain the land and ensure it stays safe and beautiful
By Getting Involved You Could
Turn your regular walks into something even more meaningful by helping us look after the Heavens. You’ll play a key role in protecting wildlife and improving access for others, while enjoying the natural beauty of the land. You’ll also be part of a supportive volunteer network, learning more about countryside care and sharing your passion with others. -
Are you a good listener who enjoys facilitating discussions? Help us engage with the community by conducting surveys, hosting drop-ins, and gathering feedback through outreach activities.
What’s Involved
As part of our community engagement team, you’ll be involved in:Conducting surveys and gathering community feedback on what's special about the Heavens
Facilitating community drop-ins or listening sessions to discuss issues and ideas
Assisting with data analysis and reporting from community engagement activities
Working with a team to engage people in the community who may not normally visit the Heavens
Training will be provided, on a standard agreed way of holding semi structured interviews and running focus groups, and this may require up to 8 -10 hours a month, depending on community engagement activities

You enjoy listening to others and facilitating meaningful conversations
You have strong communication and interpersonal skills
You’re comfortable with data entry and analysis, or willing to learn
You’re passionate about fostering a sense of community and belonging
You’re already active in the community such as community hubs or other groups

Help connect more people to the Heavens and ensure their voices are heard in shaping its future. You’ll help build community ownership of the land while gaining valuable experience in public engagement. You’ll also meet passionate individuals, build relationships, and deepen your understanding of local conservation and community values. -
Do you love organizing events and supporting community activities? Join us in running stalls and community events, helping to bring people together and make our activities run smoothly.
What’s Involved
This role involves assisting with:Planning and organizing community events, including fundraisers, awareness campaigns, and more
Setting up and managing stalls at local events
Coordinating volunteers and other helpers to ensure events run smoothly
Handling logistics, such as supplies, decorations, and event materials
This is a dynamic role where you’ll be working with a variety of teams and individuals, and it may require a few hours on event days.

You’re able to multitask and stay calm under pressure
You love working with others and helping to create engaging, successful events
You have experience in event coordination or are keen to learn

Be part of bringing people together in fun, inclusive, and meaningful ways. You’ll help more of the community access and appreciate the Heavens while learning new event skills, enjoying the great outdoors, and building friendships with others who share your enthusiasm. -
Help us spread the word about the Heavens. If you’re skilled in writing, photography, or social media, we’d love your help with communications.
What’s Involved
As part of the Outreach and Social Media team, tasks might include:Creating and scheduling social media posts to raise awareness about our work
Writing blog posts, newsletters, or updates for our website
Taking photos or creating visual content to showcase events and initiatives
Organising our photo library in a logical way to ensure pictures are easy to find when needed
Engaging with followers on social media and responding to inquiries
Assisting with broader outreach campaigns and community engagement efforts
Help design and coordinate leaflet production and delivery and deliver leaflets to specific roads
We are looking for various people to help on different aspects with small amounts of time often from home, either occasional help as need arises, or up to 2-3 hours a week.
This Role Will Suit You If
You have experience with social media platforms, such as Instagram, or with writing or photography or curating photo libraries
You’re creative and enjoy creating content to inspire and engage others
You can work independently and meet deadlines
You have a passion for spreading the word about meaningful causes

Help amplify the voices of the community and promote the importance of protecting the Heavens. You’ll share inspiring stories, stunning landscapes, and important updates that connect people with nature. In doing so, you’ll gain communication experience, work alongside a welcoming team, and use your creativity for good. -
Behind every great project is good organisation. Help us with admin, volunteer coordination, or supporting our financial systems.
What’s Involved
We need help in various areas, including:Data entry for volunteer coordination, tracking, and communications
Managing systems for invoicing and financial reporting
Assisting with bookkeeping or financial record-keeping
Supporting administrative tasks related to event planning, fundraising, or stakeholder communication
You can help with these tasks remotely or in-person depending on the work, and the time commitment is flexible, up to 2-3 hours per week.
This Role Will Suit You If
You have a practical approach to organizing and strong IT skills
You’re comfortable with spreadsheets and financial systems, or willing to learn
You enjoy working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly
You can be flexible and work independently from home

Support the smooth running of a vital community asset while gaining new skills in finance and admin. You’ll play a key role in helping the charity grow and remain accessible to all. You’ll also connect with a team of friendly, passionate people and contribute to meaningful work — even from behind the scenes. -
Do you have experience with fundraising or coming up with creative ways to generate funds? Join our small team to help raise money for running costs and future projects.
What’s Involved
Developing creative fundraising ideas, campaigns, or events
Researching and applying for grants or funding opportunities
Collaborating with local businesses, schools, and the wider community for sponsorships or donations
Exploring entrepreneurial ideas, such as merchandise or other ways to generate income
You’ll work closely with the team and can contribute as much or as little time as you’re able, but we’re looking for 4-6 hours a month to start.

You have experience in fundraising or grant writing, or you’re keen to learn
You’re creative and enjoy thinking outside the box for fundraising campaigns
You have a passion for helping charities thrive and raise necessary funds
You’re entrepreneurial and excited by the idea of commercial opportunities like merchandise

Help secure the future of Heavens Valley and support exciting new projects for the whole community. You'll use your creativity to generate real-world impact, develop your fundraising or business skills, and collaborate with a dynamic and supportive team who care deeply about people and the planet. -
Do you have an interest in storytelling, local history, or preserving memories? We’re looking for volunteers to help us gather and archive oral histories and documents that tell the story of the Heavens Valley and its community. We also want help including archiving the work we have done in the past 2 years to set up community ownership.
What’s Involved
This role involves helping us collect, organise, and preserve stories, interviews, photos, and documents that capture the history of the heavens and the community buy out and how the land has been used and farmed previously. Tasks may include:Interviewing local residents or community members about their memories and connections to the area
Transcribing and editing recorded oral histories
Organising photographs, documents, and recordings into an accessible archive
Helping us design ways to share these stories through exhibitions, publications, or online platforms
This is a flexible role, ideal for someone with an interest in local history, heritage, or research, and you can give as little or as much time as suits you (which may be up to 8 hours over a month).

You enjoy storytelling, writing, or working with historical material
You’re organised and comfortable with good digital tools for storing and editing files
You’d like to help preserve the history and identity of the local area for future generations
